Back For the First Time

A lot of things have happened since Saturday, January 31st, 2009. Friends have come and gone. Nintendo's hold over the video game industry has waned, but looks to be making a strong comeback very soon. The Pittsburgh Pirates have lost a lot of games, but the future is definitely bright. However, the most significant thing that has happened lately? I'm back.

Well, I haven't gone anywhere. I still have the same job (for a great company) and live at the same place (where they filmed scenes from this movie), but this blog is back. Hopefully for good. I'll be talking about basically anything that's on my mind, whether it be movies, games, sports, etc.

So, what's been going on in my life as of late? My life has been pretty stagnant recently, but it's gotten a little more exciting thanks to two new handhelds.

The Power of the Sun In the Palm of My Hand

Last week, I finally got my hands on a Nintendo 3DS. I found a Like New version (complete with registration form and everything!) on Ebay for only $188 (originally $250). The 3DS is the newest version of Nintendo's popular handheld. I'm not sure how they did it, but the 3DS is capable of playing games in stereoscopic 3D without the aid of glasses. While I don't own any games for it just yet, I did rent Super Street Fighter IV. It played (and looked) tremendous, and was really fun to take online. GameFly is mailing me Ridge Racer 3D next, so I'll let everyone know what I thought of that as soon as I play it.

So far, the coolest thing about the 3DS has been the included Augmented Reality cards. By laying these cards down on a table and looking at them through the 3DS, your living room is turned into a virtual battlefield. You really have to see it to believe it, and I'm really looking forward to games coming out that take full advantage of this tech.

Let's face it, though. Anyone who bought a 3DS didn't do it for the current titles available for it. They bought it for what's coming. (Well, I wanted to get one ASAP since my DSi has been broken since last winter, so now I can play original DS games again). Either way, here are the games on the 3DS horizon that I can't wait for.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

One of the best games of all time available to you wherever you go, with enhancements and 3D graphics? I have it preordered.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D

Capcom has taken the bonus games from the last two Resident Evil games and made a full fledged game out of it. Looks pretty cool. Plus you'll be able to shoot AND run...AT THE SAME TIME!

Mario Kart 3DS

Another Nintendo system, another Mario Kart game. The last two have been really good, so I'm looking for more of the same.

Animal Crossing 3DS

It's no secret that I love Animal Crossing games. People have even tried to use it against me in arguments. The series works better on a handheld device, so hopefully we get a release date very soon.

Resident Evil Revelations

We know next to nothing about this game, save that it stars Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine, takes place before Resident Evil 5, and that it looks sweet.

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D Edition

Speaking of looking sweet, are you kidding me? All I can say is wow. Another classic game is reborn in 3D form. Also, here is a well-done comparison between this game, its PS2 original, and the PSP Metal Gear Solid games.

I was also going to get into my recent acquisition of the Xperia Play, aka the Playstation Phone, but this post ran a bit long, so I'll leave it here. Thanks for reading this blog post, and please tell your friends about it! I plan on updating this a lot, but it's easier when I know people are actually reading it (or at least skimming through it).

Until next time!

Nice Rebirth(ha). I haven't been on Blogger in ages. I hadn't considered that you might not have had a 3DS yet, but it makes sense(awful launch lineup and all).

I didn't buy any 3DS games yet, but I did get to play both SFIV and RR. Both are solid enough, but I like SFIV on console(moving backgrounds and being able to use a stick) a lot more. RR makes use of the 3D really well, but I wouldn't buy it since I'm more into sim racers(Mario Kart withstanding).

The only game I have preordered so far is Mercenaries. I wonder if it'll have any sort of online leaderboards for overall, or at least for friends. That would be a huge bonus. I'm really excited, regardless, so I can actually use my 3DS for something.

I'm hesitant on Zelda. I want it, yeah, but I've got some other stuff coming out. RE is what, a week later, and Child of Eden is less than a week before(I'm playing it with a standard controller, if you're wondering. I think the Kinect sucks for the time being.). Also, and this wouldn't factor much into a purchase, but NoE and NoA(err...Australia) have announced really cool packages for OoT, but we seem to be getting left in the dark.

Yeah, I have been wanting to start a blog for a long time, but then figured I'd just bring this one back instead. One nice thing about Zelda is that it utilizes the touch screen for faster item switches. As any Zelda (and Resident Evil) fan would tell you, you tend to press Start a lot when playing those games. Nice to have a shortcut there.

I have the Move, and enjoy it with Resident Evil 5, but had to turn it off for Heavy Rain. Can't wait for the remake of No More Heroes for PS3, though. As for the Kinect, I'll start caring about it when they give me a reason to. Star Wars, Steel Battalion? We'll see.

The last new game I actually bought was Halo Reach. I GameFly and Blockbuster almost everything nowadays. Sure I play everything a little late, but I just noticed that I would pay $60 for a game, play it for a few days, and then not touch it. Seems better this way.

Anyway, nice to hear from you again. I think I feel a Metal Gear Solid mode coming soon, so I'll have to stop by and grab Portable Ops soon. I haven't even beaten Peace Walker yet, but I did get by that tough torture scene today...

A friend and I replayed MGS(TS, 2, and Subsistence) back in Jan/Feb., but since then have yet to do 4. Definitely something I need to get around to.

Have you heard the news(or lack of) recently about Rising? Quinton Flynn did an interview with some fan site and said he has never been contacted about the project, and when he has tried contacting Konami about it, they never got back to him at all. I don't know what that means, but no matter how you look at it, it's not exactly promising. Hopefully E3 clears something up, though judging by Konami's conference last year, I expect to be even more confused by the time it's finished.

I've heard that we won't see Rising until November..of 2012. So that would explain not having much news. Looking forward to it, though.
